Portuguese Laurel is called by other names such as Prunus lusitanica ‘Angustifolia’ or Portugal Laurel. This type of laurel can be evergreen trees or shrubs with showy flowers in spring, and often good autumn foliage colour. Some have edible fruit in autumn, and a few species have ornamental bark.

Portuguese Laurel Hedge Plant performs best in moist, well-drained soil supplemented with organic matter. Portugal laurel is slightly slower growing than cherry laurel, but more tolerant of heat, sun, wind, and drought.

3. Maintenance of a Portuguese Laurel Hedge

Portuguese Laurel Hedging and Laurel hedging in general require little maintenance. One of the most important factors for a healthy hedge is weed control. Weeds at the bottom of your hedge can stop your laurel hedge from growing down to the ground. Portugal Laurel Hedging can be trimmed in late spring or early summer as the hedge will produce new shoots this time of year.
